What geologic processes caused gold ore to form?

Answers

Placer deposits are formed by alluvial processes within rivers and streams, and on beaches. Placer gold deposits form via gravity, with the density of gold causing it to sink into trap sites within the river bed, or where water velocity drops, such as bends in rivers and behind boulders.

Answer:

The geologic process results in formation of gold ore is called Forming Deposits.

Explanation:

Gold occurs as the deposition in the fractured rocks called as the lodes. This process is commonly referred to as the forming deposits process.

When the heated hot fluids circulate through the gold bearing rocks then it picks the gold from it and sweeps it to new location by concentrating the gold elements. These concentrated loads or the gold ores are also called as the veins.

The discoveries of astronomers like Copernicus and Galileo

established that the universe was sun-centered, or heliocentric.
reinforced most of the traditional teachings of philosophers and the Church.
were supported by most scientists of the time.
proved that ancient philosophers, like Ptolemy, were correct in their views of how the universe works.

Answers

The correct answer is - established that the universe was sun-centered, or heliocentric.

Copernicus and Galileo were two of the scientists that managed to make a huge difference with their theories and discoveries, and help a lot in the change of the societies and eventual loss of the rule of the church. While Copernicus only had theories that the universe is sun-centered, but no proofs, he was ridiculed, and his theories were not accepted at the time. Galileo though managed to create a telescope. With his invention, he managed to prove the theories of Copernicus, and since he had a proof, it was much easier for the theory to be accepted. It needed time though, as the church was trying to block his research and publications about any such thing, but eventually it got to the public, and with his invention being able to provide the people with the proof, the theory was accepted. While this theory is not totally right, it still managed to make a huge difference, and further researches started to take place gradually, constantly pushing the boundaries and putting the science in front of the theology.

Final answer:

The discoveries of astronomers like Copernicus and Galileo established that the universe was sun-centered, or heliocentric. This representation of the universe was a radical departure from the Ptolemaic and Aristotelian geocentric models supported by the Church.

Explanation:

Copernicus formulated the heliocentric model of the solar system, marking a foundational shift in our understanding of the cosmos. His model was bolstered by Galileo's telescopic observations, which provided concrete evidence that supported the heliocentric theory. Moreover, Johannes Kepler's work with planetary motion refined and strengthened the heliocentric perspective. This collective shift in consensus took place despite the initial resistance from traditional philosophies and the Catholic Church, illustrating a crucial transition from reliance on abstract reasoning to empirical evidence and scientific methodology in understanding our universe.

Volcanic eruptions are among the most terrifying and dramatic forces in nature. Lava flows usually burn or bury everything in their path, and the flows can continue for miles and miles. Suffocating ash flows—a mix of hot gases, pumice, rock fragments, and bits of glass—can also accompany an eruption. Debris flows are especially treacherous. Water from lakes or rivers, heavy rain, or melting snow can cause debris on the flanks of a volcano to form into a fast-moving "mudflow" of rock, ash, and cinders. These flows can occur with little warning, and a wall of mud can cover an entire city, claiming thousands of victims before they can react. Write a clincher sentence to conclude Paragraph 5. - regions with a high elevation.

The change of elevation (going high or low) would be represented by circles.  The closest the circles are to each other, the steeper is the variation.

A topographic map is usually a large-scale map (showing a small area, like your neighbourhood, not a whole country for example).  If there are state boundaries or any kind of road passing in that frame, yes they will be shown on the map... but it's not the primarily use of a topographic map.

A student notices that the moon is full one evening. Which sequence of moon phases will the student observe over the next eight days?

Answers

The moon's phases directly depend on the positioning of the moon toward the Earth, as well as its position toward the sun. The moon is always half lighted, though we can not see that, and we can only observe from the Earth part of the lighted half of the moon, depending on how the moon and our planet are positioned toward one another. The only time that we actually see the whole half of the moon that is lighted is when we see full moon, which from our perspective seems like all of the moon is lighted.

After we see a full moon phase, in the next eight days we can observe the waning gibbous moon phase, and the last quarter phase. The waning gibbous moon phase is when the lighted part is decreasing from our perspective, while the last quarter is when we see half bright and half dark moon, with the left side being the bright one.

Dinosaurs once stomped across much of the planet, sometimes leaving tracks in mud that were buried in more mud and later hardened to stone. this sample is from the philmont scout ranch in new mexico. it is a loose block that fell down from a cliff above. the footprint was made by a tyrannosaurus rex. the print is 33 inches long (almost 3 feet for one foot!) and 28 inches wide, and extended 9 inches deep into the sediment. the sun was shining as indicated, and the black arrows point to shadows from two of the three toes of the track. is the rock with the track now upside-down (you are looking at the side that was down when the sediment was soft) or right-side up (you are looking at the side that was up when the sediment was soft)?

Answers

you are looking at the foot print of a t-rex. the reason it is soo deep is because the soil is soft and the t-res is so heavy it made it go down.

Answer:

In this case study: The rock with the track is upside-down.

Explanation:

All right this is going to be very difficult so please pay careful attention. First of all, prints are the impression a living thing leaves in soft terrain without consideration of its composition. The physics of the print is down displacement of the terrain by up-down pressure. In this case, after it mineralized the rock was built in the opposite. To fill the space left by the dinosaur. So instead of being an incision, it became a protrude. So if the shadows draw an extending mantle away from the edge of the print. That means it is a terrain protrude and that is upside down.

Look at the diagram below.

The picture shows Earth on the left and the sun on the right. The axis of Earth is shown tilted with the north pole towards the right and south pole towards the left.

New York is located in the northern hemisphere. Based on the diagram, what was the season in New York six months ago? (2 points)

summer

winter

spring

autumn

Answers

Answer:

Winter

Explanation:

The picture shows the position of the Earth compared to the Sun around the June solstice, when the North Pole is closer to the Sun than the South one, that's Summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

Six months ago, the situation would be reversed... and then the Southern Pole would be closer to the Sun... and it would be Summer again, but in the Southern Hemisphere, and Winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

The question could have been six months in the future, with the same answer, since an orbit around the Sun takes a year.

Six months ago, it was winter in New York because the Earth’s Northern Hemisphere was tilted away from the Sun.

The picture shows Earth with its axis tilted, indicating the seasons due to the Earth's tilt and orbit around the Sun.

Since the Northern Hemisphere (where New York is located) is tilted towards the Sun, it is currently summer in New York. Given that seasons are approximately three months long, six months ago, it would have been winter in New York. This is because the Southern Hemisphere would have been tilted towards the Sun, experiencing summer. Therefore, the Northern Hemisphere would have leaned away from the Sun and experienced winter.

Thus, it was winter in New York because the Earth’s Northern Hemisphere was tilted away from the Sun.

Why did farmers use the chemical forchlorfenuron?

Answers

ANSWER:

Farmers use the chemical forchlorfenuron to improve the harvest of fruits.

EXPLANATION:

The use of this chemical is believed to bring the harvest forward by almost 2 weeks and also yields a bigger sized fruit. The use of this chemical is done so as to get the produce early and sell it in the market at an asking price. When fruits yielded by the use of this chemical ripen, they are big in size and are sold in the market before other fruits and therefore have no competition. Thus to earn higher profits from the fruit harvest, farmers use the chemical. This chemical however can have adverse effects on fruit leading to bursting of the fruit.

At a subduction zone where oceanic lithosphere meets continental lithosphere, which would subduct and why?

Oceanic lithosphere—it is more buoyant on the mantle.
The oceanic lithosphere would subduct because it has a higher density at 3.0 grams per cubic centimeter.
Continental lithosphere—it is thicker than the oceanic plate and can plow through it.
Continental lithosphere—it is more buoyant on the mantle.
Continental lithosphere—it has a higher density at 2.7 grams per cubic centimeter.

Answers

Final answer:

In a subduction zone, the dense oceanic lithosphere subducts or sinks beneath the less dense continental lithosphere due to differences in their densities.

Explanation:

In a subduction zone, it is the oceanic lithosphere that subducts beneath the continental lithosphere. The primary reason for this is due to differences in density. Oceanic lithosphere, comprised primarily of basaltic rock, has a higher density typically around 3.0 grams per cubic centimeter, compared to continental lithosphere, made mostly of granitic rock, which has a lower density of about 2.7 grams per cubic centimeter. Because of this density difference, the more dense oceanic lithosphere sinks, or subducts, beneath the lighter continental lithosphere.

Sparta though was not like the other city-states of the Hellenic world. While all others were developing some form of partial democracy, where orientated toward trade, science, Sparta was the total opposite. Sparta was ruled by a monarch. All the healthy boys were trained to serve the military and that was their only job in their lives. Most of the hard work was done by slaves. The women had role in the household but also the same rights as the men. The society was mostly striding toward self-sustaining, resembling and ancient type of socialism in a way.

The 2010 Mw 7.0 earthquake in Haiti caused an estimated 280,000 structures to collapse or sustain severe damage and resulted in the deaths of 100,000 to 160,000 people. However, a much larger Mw 8.8 earthquake in Chile that same year caused an estimated 550 deaths and significantly less damage to structures. Much of this difference in death toll and damage was due to the fact that Chile has strict building requirements, whereas no national building code exists in Haiti. What else can affect the number of deaths or amount of damage caused by an earthquake?

Answers

The amount of damage an earthquake depends on multiple factors. Of course, its strength is one of the biggest factors, but very often it is not the decisive factor. If an earthquake strikes at an area where there's higher density of population, than the chances are that there will be more dead and injured people. If the earthquake strikes a place where there's little to no people doesn't matter its strength, there will be no dead or injured people, or only very few. If there's a lot of infrastructure in the area where the earthquake appeared, there will be lot of damage, but if there's very little infrastructure, than there will be very little damage done. The warning of the population on time can also be crucial for avoiding casualties, and if it is done on time and the people are evacuated, there will be very few or no victims, but if there isn't any warning, or it is too late, than there will be much more casualties. All these things were also the difference in the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. The one in Haiti was in densely populated area, with lot of infrastructure, and there was not warning on time, while in Chile it was in an area where there's small population density, less infrastructure, and the warning was on time so the people were evacuated.

Final answer:

The number of deaths and amount of damage caused by an earthquake can be influenced by multiple factors, including the earthquake's magnitude, depth, population density, and building codes.

Explanation:

The number of deaths and amount of damage caused by an earthquake can be influenced by various factors. One important factor is the magnitude of the earthquake. A higher magnitude earthquake is typically more destructive and can cause more casualties. Another factor is the depth of the earthquake. Shallow earthquakes tend to cause more damage compared to deeper ones. The population density of an area can also affect the number of deaths, as more densely populated areas have a higher risk of casualties. Additionally, the building codes and construction practices in a location play a crucial role. Areas with strict building requirements and earthquake-resistant structures are better equipped to withstand and mitigate the impact of earthquakes, leading to fewer casualties and less damage.

You recognize that this cliff is made of “fossil sand dunes”, with wind-blown sand that was later glued together by hard-water deposits. You are accompanied by a student, who is carrying your tea and crumpets for you. You sketch four arrows on the cliff, label them as shown, and ask the student which of the arrows was pointing up when the loose sand was deposited. Your student is brilliant, and correctly tells you the answer. The arrow that was pointing up when the loose sand was deposited is the arrow that is closest to:

Answers

may be the way the wind blew? or that that is the way the sand is deposited

Final answer:

The arrow that was pointing 'up' when the loose sand was deposited would be the one that is opposite to the direction of tapering or thinning of sedimentary layers or opposite to the steep slope of the cross-bedding present in a fossil sand dune formation.

Explanation:

When sedimentary rocks, particularly those originating from sand dunes, solidify, they retain the directional pattern of the wind flow during their formation. This directional pattern is often preserved in the form of inclined layering or cross-bedding. In this scenario the original 'up' direction when the sand was deposited can be determined by looking at the orientation of these layers.

When wind-blown sand settles down, it forms angled or inclined layers of deposition, with the inclination facing the direction the wind was blowing from and the opposite direction being 'up'. Therefore, observing the way these inclined planes are stacked would reveal the original 'up' direction.

For instance, if the student points to the arrow which is opposite to the direction of tapering or thinning of the layers or opposite to the steep slope of this cross-bedding, that would be the correct answer as this indicates the arrow that was pointing 'up' when the loose sand was deposited.

A widely cited theory associates active faults with earthquakes in China and Southeast Asia. This theory suggests ________.

East Asia is moving toward the Himalaya, causing faulting and earthquakes
India is moving west relative to Eurasia, pulling central Asia away from East Asia
subduction beneath East Asia is pushing East Asia toward the Himalaya, forming young mountains between the Himalaya and Pacific subduction zones
India is plowing into the "soft underbelly" of Asia, pushing East Asia eastward

Answers

The correct answer is - India is plowing into the ''soft underbelly'' of Asia, pushing East Asia eastward.

Since India hit into the Eurasian plate its movement has never stopped since then. India is sunbducting bellow Eurasia, but with the subduction it has caused significant lifting up of the surrounding area, with the highest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas, being the most marking product of that. As India still continues to push inside Eurasia and continues with the subduction, more and more cracks appear in the crust. These cracks cause the formation of faults. Because of the pressure that enables the formation of the faults, lot of crust is cracking deep into the ground, and as it cracks and breaks, lot of gaps are opening up. The rocks than adjust, and as they do they release a lot of energy. That energy release results in the formation of numerous earthquakes in the surrounding areas like the western half of China and the northwestern and northern part of Southeast Asia.

The intertropical convergence zone is characterized by

Answers

Answer:

The intertropical convergence zone is the region of the terrestrial globe where the trade winds of the northern hemisphere converge with those of the southern hemisphere.

It is characterized by being a belt of low pressure and inconsistent location around the equator constituted by ascending air currents, where large masses of warm and humid air converge from the north and south of the intertropical zone.

The reason of its inconsistent location is due to the movements of the Earth with the seasons, having as a consequence the amount variation of heat energy from the sun in this region.

Final answer:

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is a region between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn characterized by high temperatures and significant rainfall. These conditions are a result of intense sunlight causing constant air uplift and condensation of water vapor into rainfall. The ITCZ plays a significant role in global weather patterns and rainforest formation.

Explanation:

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is a region that straddles the Earth's equator, lying between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. It's largely characterized by high temperatures and significant precipitation, owing largely to the consistent heating by the intense sunlight near the equator, causing constant air mass uplift and condensation of water vapor.

Distinct bands of rainfall typify these regions, similar to what is observed in Africa's tropical savannas and monsoon areas. Unlike the temperate regions, these tropical climate zones are perceived to be more stable environments allowing for the development of highly specialized biological niches.

The ITCZ plays a considerable role in driving global weather patterns and is responsible for the creation of many of the planet's rainforests.

This morning I entered a plea of guilty to the charge of leaving the scene of an accident. Prior to my appearance in court it would have been improper for me to comment on these matters. But tonight I am free to tell you what happened and to say what it means to me. 2On the weekend of July 18th, I was on Martha's Vineyard Island participating with my nephew, Joe Kennedy -- as for thirty years my family has participated -- in the annual Edgartown Sailing Regatta. Only reasons of health prevented my wife from accompanying me. 3On Chappaquiddick Island, off Martha's Vineyard, I attended, on Friday evening, July 18th, a cook-out I had encouraged and helped sponsor for a devoted group of Kennedy campaign secretaries. When I left the party, around 11:15pm, I was accompanied by one of these girls, Miss Mary Jo Kopechne. Mary Jo was one of the most devoted members of the staff of Senator Robert Kennedy. She worked for him for four years and was broken up over his death. For this reason, and because she was such a gentle, kind, and idealistic person, all of us tried to help her feel that she still had a home with the Kennedy family. 4There is no truth, no truth whatever, to the widely circulated suspicions of immoral conduct that have been leveled at my behavior and hers regarding that evening. There has never been a private relationship between us of any kind. I know of nothing in Mary Jo's conduct on that or any other occasion -- and the same is true of the other girls at that party -- that would lend any substance to such ugly speculation about their character. Nor was I driving under the influence of liquor. 5Little over one mile away, the car that I was driving on an unlit road went off a narrow bridge which had no guard rails and was built on a left angle to the road. The car overturned in a deep pond and immediately filled with water. I remember thinking as the cold water rushed in around my head that I was for certain drowning. Then water entered my lungs and I actual felt the sensation of drowning. But somehow I struggled to the surface alive. 6I made immediate and repeated efforts to save Mary Jo by diving into the strong and murky current, but succeeded only in increasing my state of utter exhaustion and alarm. My conduct and conversations during the next several hours, to the extent that I can remember them, make no sense to me at all. 7Although my doctors informed me that I suffered a cerebral concussion, as well as shock, I do not seek to escape responsibility for my actions by placing the blame either on the physical and emotional trauma brought on by the accident, or on anyone else. 8I regard as indefensible the fact that I did not report the accident to the police immediately. 9Instead of looking directly for a telephone after lying exhausted in the grass for an undetermined time, I walked back to the cottage where the party was being held and requested the help of two friends, my cousin, Joseph Gargan and Phil Markham, and directed them to return immediately to the scene with me -- this was sometime after midnight -- in order to undertake a new effort to dive down and locate Miss Kopechne. Their strenuous efforts, undertaken at some risk to their own lives, also proved futile. 10All kinds of scrambled thoughts -- all of them confused, some of them irrational, many of them which I cannot recall, and some of which I would not have seriously entertained under normal circumstances -- went through my mind during this period. They were reflected in the various inexplicable, inconsistent, and inconclusive things I said and did, including such questions as whether the girl might still be alive somewhere out of that immediate area, whether some awful curse did actually hang over all the Kennedys, whether there was some justifiable reason for me to doubt what had happened and to delay my report, whether somehow the awful weight of this incredible incident might in some way pass from my shoulders. I was overcome, I'm frank to say, by a jumble of emotions: grief, fear, doubt, exhaustion, panic, confusion, and shock.
