a^2 = b^2 + c^2

a^2 = (8)^2 + (4)^2

a^2 = 64 + 16

a^2 = 80

[tex]a = \sqrt{80} [/tex]

Answer:

The length of the diagonal (d) = 4[tex]\sqrt{5}[/tex] units.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the length (l) = 8, width (w) = 4 and height (h) = 2.

Now we have to find the diagonal of the base.

The given figure is a rectangle box. The base of the rectangular box is a rectangle with the length (l) = 8 and the width(w) = 4

The length of the diagonal (d) = [tex]\sqrt{l^2 + w^2}[/tex]

d = [tex]\sqrt{8^2 + 4^2}[/tex]

d = [tex]\sqrt{64 + 16}[/tex]

d = [tex]\sqrt{80}[/tex]

d = [tex]\sqrt{16} \sqrt{5}[/tex]

d = 4[tex]\sqrt{5}[/tex]

So, the length of the diagonal (d) = 4[tex]\sqrt{5}[/tex] units.

Solve for x. |x| – 5 = 7

Answers

Answer:

x = 12

Step-by-step explanation:

x - 5 = 7

⇒ x = 7 + 5 = 12

Final answer:

To solve for x, add 5 to both sides of the equation and then determine the absolute value of x.

Explanation:

To solve for x in the equation |x| – 5 = 7, we need to isolate x on the left side of the equation. To do this, we can add 5 to both sides:

|x| – 5 + 5 = 7 + 5

|x| = 12

Now, we have an absolute value equation. The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero. Therefore, we have two possible solutions: x = 12 or x = -12.

the table shows how much jake charged for the last 4 orders of pup cakes. what is the constant of proportionality in cost per pup cake?

Answers

Answer:

$2.50

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's take a look at the 4 orders and check the price per pup cake in each order:

Order 1: $5 for 2 cakes, so $2.50 per cake.

Order 2: $7.50 for 3 cakes, so $2.50 per cake.

Order 3: $12.50 for 5 cakes, so $2.50 per cake.

Order 4: $20.00 for 8 cakes, so $2.50 per cake.

Jake has a very consistent pricing of his cakes... they're always $2.50 each.

That price is the relation between the price asked and the number of cakes sold, that's the constant of proportionality in this case.

Answer:

Option 3rd is correct

$2.5 is the constant of proportionality in cost per pup cake

Step-by-step explanation:

The direct proportionality states that:

[tex]y \propto x[/tex]

then the equation is in the form of :

[tex]y = kx[/tex]              ....[1]

where, k is the constant of proportionality.

As per the statement:

The table shows how much Jake charged for the last 4 orders of pup cakes.

Let y represents the cost  and x represents the pup-cakes

Consider any values of x and y from the given tables.

x = 3 and y = $7.5

To find constant of proportionality in cost per pup cake.

Substitute these in [1] we have;

[tex]7.5 = 3k[/tex]

Divide both sides by 3 we have;

2.5 = k

or

k = 2.5

Therefore, $2.5 is the constant of proportionality in cost per pup cake

what’s the area
A. 64
B. 44
C. 30.25
D. 13.75

Answers

Answer:

B) 44

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's start with the triangles. Normally, when dealing with triangles, you would use the formula (B*H*1/2), but since there's two identical triangles, we can just do (B*H) and get the area for both:

2.5*5.5=13.75

Then to solve for the square, it is also (B*H):

5.5*5.5=30.25

At this point, to solve for the total area, you just add the areas together:

13.75+30.25=44

Hope this helps!

Answer: B. 44

Step-by-step explanation: The area of a rhombus is base times height. The height is 5.5 cm, and the base is 8 cm. To find the base, add 2.5 and 5.5.

8 x 5.5 = 44

The area is 44 cm^2

Which of these functions has an inverse function? Select all that apply.
y = x
y = x^2
y = x^3
y = x^4

Answers

ANSWER

y=x

y=x³

EXPLANATION

A function, f(x) has an inverse if and only if

[tex]f(a) = f(b) \Rightarrow \: a = b[/tex]

Thus, the function is one to one.

For y=x or

[tex]f(x) = x[/tex]

[tex]f(a) = f(b) \Rightarrow \: a = b[/tex]

Hence this function has an inverse.

For the function y=x² or f(x)=x².

[tex]f(a) = f(b) \Rightarrow \: {a}^{2} = {b}^{2} \Rightarrow \: a = \pm \: b[/tex]

This function has no inverse on the entire real numbers.

For the function y=x³ or f(x)=x³

[tex]f(a) = f(b) \Rightarrow \: {a}^{3} = {b}^{3} \Rightarrow \: a = b[/tex]

This function also has an inverse.

For y=x⁴ or f(x) =x⁴

[tex]f(a) = f(b) \Rightarrow \: {a}^{4} = {b}^{4} \Rightarrow \: a = \pm \: b[/tex]

This function has no inverse over the entire real numbers.

Answer:

The function [tex]x=y[/tex] and [tex]y=x^{3}[/tex] are inverse function.

Step-by-step explanation:

Function inverse definition:

If a provided function f(x) is mapped x to y, then the inverse of the provided function f(x) is mapped y to x.

Or  [tex]f(x)=f(y)\Rightarrow x=y[/tex]

Now, consider the function y = x.

Interchange the variables x and y.

[tex]x=y[/tex]

Now, solve [tex]x=y[/tex] for [tex]y[/tex].

[tex]x=y[/tex]

Therefore, this function has an inverse.

Consider the function [tex]y=x^{2}[/tex].

Interchange the variables x and y.

[tex]x=y^{2}[/tex]

Now, solve [tex]x=y^{2}[/tex] for [tex]y[/tex].

[tex]\pm \sqrt{x} =y[/tex]

Therefore, the function has no inverse.

Consider the function [tex]y=x^{3}[/tex].

Interchange the variables x and y.

[tex]x=y^{3}[/tex]

Now, solve [tex]x=y^{3}[/tex] for [tex]y[/tex].

[tex]\sqrt[3]{x}=y[/tex]

Therefore, the function has inverse.

Consider the function [tex]y=x^{4}[/tex].

Interchange the variables x and y.

[tex]x=y^{4}[/tex]

Now, solve [tex]x=y^{4}[/tex] for [tex]y[/tex].

[tex]\pm \sqrt[4]{x}=y[/tex]

Therefore, the function has no inverse.

Hence, the function [tex]x=y[/tex] and [tex]y=x^{3}[/tex] are inverse function.

Griffing, when the conductor of a streetcar refused to stop his car for me, although (I was) closely following Josephine and holding on to the iron rail. They dragged us a number of yards before she succeeded in stopping them. She reported the conductor to the president of the City Railway, who dismissed him at once, and told me to take the number of the car whenever I was mistreated by a conductor or driver. On the 13th I had occasion to go for necessities for the patients in the Freedmen's Hospital where I have been doing and advising for a number of months. I thought now I would get a ride without trouble as I was in company with another friend, Laura S. Haviland of Michigan. As I ascended the platform of the car, the conductor pushed me, saying "Go back--get off here." I told him I was not going off, then "I'll put you off" said he furiously, clenching my right arm with both hands, using such violence that he seemed about to succeed, when Mrs. Haviland told him he was not going to put me off. "Does she belong to you?" said he in a hurried angry tone. She replied, "She does not belong to me, but she belongs to humanity." The number of the car was noted, and conductor dismissed at once upon the report to the president, who advised his arrest for assault and battery as my shoulder was sprained by his effort to put me off. Accordingly I had him arrested and the case tried before Justice Thompson. My shoulder was very lame and swollen, but is better. It is hard for the old slaveholding spirit to die.
